Brief of Ministry of Home Affairs
The Lagos State Minstry of Home Affairs has undergone various stages of development and restructuring both in nomenclature and responsibilities since inception in 1979.
The Minstry was created during Governor LateefJakande’sAdministation and it was tagged “Office of Home Affairs, Lottery and Pools Betting.
Later during Navy Capt. Mike Akhigbe Adminstration, the Office was changed to a full- fledged Ministry called Ministry of Home Affairs and Tourism with Mr. Franklin Adejuwon as First Honourable Commissioner, Mr Musuliu Obanikoro.
In 2015, the Ministry was re-christening Ministry of Home Affairs by Mr.Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State Fire Service re-assigned to the Ministries of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Special Duties respectively.
MANDATE/ MINISTERIAL RESPONSIBILITY
i. Relations with Religious organizations/ Bodies
ii. Supervision of Pilgrims Welfare Boards.
iii. Control of Moneylenders
iv. Coordination of State Celebrations and Ceremonies including National Independence Day, Armed Forces Rembrance day, International Tolerance Day etc.
v. Matters relating to Public Holidays and festive Days( Christian & Muslim).
vi. Initiate, formulate, execute, Monitor and evaluate policies relating to Home Affairs
vii. Information/ Data Gathering of worship Centers( Christian& Muslim) and social clubs.
viii. Liaison with Nigeria Inter- Religious Council (NIREC)
ix. Nigeria Legion matters
x. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Governor.
